1. WHAT IS TRAINNET® ?

Trainnet® integrates all your train sub-systems via a single Train Communication Network (TCN)   Trainnet® acts as a TCMS or VCU, providing control, monitoring and diagnostics of train sub-systems such as doors, lights, HVAC, brakes and batteries, to name a few.   Trainnet® can also act as the Passenger Information System (PIS), Public Address (PA) and/or Train-to-wayside Communication System   Trainnet® acts as a Train Event Recorder, logging and protecting vital train-borne information.

The benefits are significant. Firstly, your train architecture is greatly simplified, allowing you to save money on design, installation, cabling and maintenance. Trainnet® contributes to reduce the train life-cycle costs (LCC) from the design stage to its end-of-life. In addition, using a unique system enables maximum synergies and performance by minimizing the amount of hardware and software used, thus saving time and money. The system will also be more compact, saving valuable space on-board your trains. Reliability will also be increased thanks to more direct communications between sub-systems and the use of fewer parts, which will lower maintenance and stock levels.

A redundant network prevents network cut that would disable all or a part of the train systems. EKE has expertise in designing redundant network to match your needs and requirements.   Redundant train computers provide additional reliability: in the event a train computer is disabled, the second is activated and smoothly takes up all its functionalities, enabling normal operations to continue.   Redundancy is supported by the Trainnet® Software which can implement master-slave logics between systems and allows smooth adjustments when technical issues arise.   Both Hardware and Software can be designed to fulfil SIL requirements. EKE has developed safety critical applications including speed monitoring, acceleration monitoring, fire detection system monitoring and temperature measurement, to name a few.

With Trainnet®, you are free to develop your own applications, modify configuration as well as integrate third party Hardware and Software onto the Trainnet® platform. You can develop the Software yourself or let us do it for you.   EKE can grant you the intellectual property rights (IPR) of the application Software we develop for you. This ensures you keep control at all time, making sure you make a safe, long-term investment.   We provide support for at least 30 years in order to ensure that our customers are satisfied during the entire life-time of their project.
